Sandra comes to us with more than 20 years of swimming and coaching experience. She started swimming competitively on a summer league team at the age of 6, soon joining her first USS team. She graduated from Jersey Village High School where she was a four year member of the Varsity Swim Team and Team Captain her senior year. Sandra also swam with CFSC’s Elite in high school. Coaching began for Sandra at the age of 15 where she served as a junior coach and swim lesson teacher in the summers for the Winchester Hurricanes. During college, Sandra was head coach for several NWAL summer league programs and also served as assistant coach for the USA Swimming Team: the Abilene Tidal Waves. After completing graduate school in Virginia, Sandra returned to Texas where she became the UIL 5A Head Coach of Belton High School’s Inaugural Swim Team. She coached in Belton for three years and grew the program to more than 50 swimmers. Sandra has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Abilene Christian University and a Masters in Counseling Psychology from Radford University in Virginia. In 2004, Sandra and her husband returned to Houston to begin a family and she has been working as a High School Counselor in CFISD. Sandra is excited to return to coaching summer league because she believes this is where her passion for swimming started.

Expectations
People will rise to your expectations! Therefore, when coaching I have HIGH expectations of those I coach. My expectations, however, are not merely related to performance. Participating in sports allows youth to learn about self-discipline, dedication, commitment to others, good sportsmanship and many other important life skills. I expect my swimmers to show respect at all times and to grow in ability. I also hope to have open communication with swimmers and their parents.

Goal
I realize that this is a summer league team; meant to provide children and teenagers with positive exposure to competitive swimming. My goal as a coach is to help build stamina, stroke knowledge, and swimming ability in all of the members of the team. Additionally, my goal is to develop a competitive team within our league while having fun(as a team) in the process!
